Tripura

Bamboo craft is an ancient art form in Tripura, deeply rooted in the lifestyle of its tribal communities like the Reang, Chakma, and Tripuri. It involves crafting household items, decorative pieces, mats, furniture, and even art forms like murals and idols using bamboo.
Mature bamboo stalks are cut, cleaned, and treated to prevent decay. The bamboo strips are then carefully sliced and shaped into desired forms using cutting such as knives, chisels, and saws. Designs are created using techniques like weaving, splitting, carving, or polishing. Finished pieces are sometimes adorned with natural dyes and varnish for durability.
The techniques used in the bamboo craft are weaving where bamboo strips are interlaced to create mats, baskets, and wall hangings; carving in which patterns and motifs are carved into bamboo; and splitting and joining to create structured items like furniture.
