These ‘too cool for school’ birds are proficient flyers, thanks to their large wingspans, and are found on almost all continents. Their dramatic dives from heights of up to 30 feet above water to catch fish are a sight to behold. Contrary to popular belief, they do not store fish in their iconic throat pouches.
